I have set myself a challenge: for 100 days I will do something every day that pushes me out of my comfort zone… hopefully completing the full 100 before I turn 40.
I have consulted friends far and wide, resulting in the following list of challenges. It is a work in progress so I reserve the right to change them as the attempt goes on… New suggestions or challenges are always very welcome!
I’ll aim to blog about each as I go; post some photos; and, if my technical abilities permit, I will include the facility for folk to comment and tell me what you want more of. But for now, here’s the list:
- Start a blog
- Put the children in charge for a day
- Try Zumba
- Cycle through floods
- Make a Battenberg cake
- Interact on social media for 3 hours. (Not just snoop! Interact!)
- Cook a pig’s head
- Change a tyre on the car and learn to adjust the tyre pressure
- Introduce myself to the neighbours
- Join an expensive gym/health spa
- Go to a meditation class
- Pack the car for holiday entirely by myself
- Stay in bed for an entire day
- Have a drastic haircut
- Go rowing
- Build something
- Go to a posh restaurant and eat on my own
- Watch a horror film
- Strike up conversation with a stranger in a pub
- Do a mountain bike race
- Invite someone to dinner I don’t know very well
- Tantra workshop
- Go wild swimming
- Do an aerobics class
- Look after chickens
- Sing karaoke
- Do belly dancing (or pole dancing)
- Water-ski
- Write to 10 people and tell them what I love about them
- Stand up/open mic ??
- Sky dive??
- Do something generous and unexpected for someone else
- Ride Cow/help birth calf
- Learn to ride a unicycle
- Learn some kind of useful plumbing task
- Put up our roof rack and bicycles without help
- Take someone old and lonely a meal
- Have a Brazilian
- Ski a black run
- Drink a yard of ale
- Spend a day dressed as Bananaman
- Speak in a public place (speakers corner type thing)
- Learn to Eskimo roll
- Salsa/tango
- Volunteer to help at school
- Apply to be on a TV game show
- Knit a pair of socks
- Write a short story
- Make a Baked Alaska (for guests)
- Have a conversation in another language
- Dance all night in a club
- Abseil
- Sleep rough
- Learn a random new language
- Eat something alive!
- Try Tai chi
- Write a letter to The Times
- Publish a poem on the internet
- Potter a cup or plate
- Do a jump on a mountain bike
- Make some jewellery
- Paint a picture
- 24 hours juice-only fast
- Visit an abattoir
- Do ALL my filing
- Get rid of 1/2 of my possessions
- Give a significant amount of money to charity
- Drive through a city on my own without sat nav
- Drive across Europe at night
- Charge an eye watering fee for some work
- Get a tattoo
- Hire a personal shopper
- Take the children to a roller disco
- Busk/sing in public
- Be silent for a day
- Stay in a haunted house/castle
- Go caving
- Drive a bus
- Shoot something
- Have a session with a personal trainer
- Download 5 apps and figure out how to use them
- Drive to the mountains, and hike on my own
- Take the kids to the beach for a day trip, just me and them. Make it fun without spending money
- Promote myself, shamelessly, far and wide
- Apply for a job with a 6 figure salary
- Learn a musical instrument
- Sell something I have made
- Go to a networking event and speak to people
- Get up at 6am every day for a week and use the time productively
- Go biking in the dark
- Take video footage of one of my challenges and upload it to you tube
- Teach somebody something

If you keep doing 1 a day then I think #32 will be on my birthday. I shall expect an extra big present (or rather, I won’t expect it, so that when it arrives, it is generous and unexpected)
